Synopsis

Molière's immortal play "The Imaginary Invalid" is presented to readers with the masterful Turkish translation by Ahmet Vefik Paşa. The play centres on Argan, a hypochondriac obsessed with illness and constant medication, who attempts to marry off his daughter Angelique to a physician she does not love, solely to have a doctor in the house at all times. This classic comedy, which satirises the medical profession, the treatment methods of the era, and doctors' arrogance, entertainingly reveals the conflict between the fake and the real and between self-interest and pure love, while holding a mirror to the immutable weaknesses of human nature.
