Synopsis

This book, titled "Çocuklarda Ailevi Akdeniz Ateşi ve Psikososyal Yansımaları" ("Familial Mediterranean Fever and its Psychosocial Reflections in Children"), addresses both the clinical aspects and the profound psychosocial effects of Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF), a genetic condition frequently encountered, particularly in Anatolian territories. Written by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Battal from the perspective of both a physician and a father of a child with FMF, this work emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary and holistic approach in managing the disease. The book includes detailed medical information such as the clinical symptoms, diagnostic criteria, MEFV gene variants, Colchicine treatment, and application principles. Furthermore, it extensively covers the impacts of FMF on children's physical, developmental, behavioral, cognitive functions, and quality of life. Comprehensive sections are devoted to family dynamics, including the reshaping of family roles, emotional responses, and stress management, as well as sleep disorders and the dynamics of the physician-patient relationship. This resource is an invaluable aid, offering empathy, accurate information, and a holistic viewpoint to families, clinicians, and researchers grappling with FMF.
