The science of being well
Synopsis
Wallace D. Wattles's "The Science of Being Well" posits that health is a definite science, attainable by conforming to the monistic theory that all existence stems from one Living Substance which continuously strives towards perfect health. Sickness, therefore, is not divine but results from man's imperfect thoughts (faith in disease) and wrong habits. The remedy requires thinking and acting in a "Certain Way": one must first achieve unwavering Faith in health and express reverent Gratitude for the perfect health one is already receiving from the Supreme. This mental attitude, which causes the inner Principle of Health to become constructively active , must be externalized by performing the voluntary functions (eating, breathing, sleeping) correctly, such as strictly adhering to eating only upon an "Earned Hunger" and chewing every mouthful to a liquid. Wattles asserts that strict, unwavering adherence to this comprehensive guide for thought and action leads infallibly to permanent wellness.
