Synopsis

This comprehensive work, "Mümtaz Yener: Yaşamı Ve Sanatı" (Mümtaz Yener: His Life and Art), published by Holistence Publications as part of its "Famaous Turkish Painters Series" and penned by the artist's daughter, Nüshet Göksun Yener, is based on a PhD thesis detailing the 70-year artistic career of Mumtaz Yener (1918-2007), a pioneer of the Social Realism movement in Turkish painting. The book meticulously analyzes Yener's classical training under Nazmi Ziya, İbrahim Çallı, and Leopold Levy , his socially conscious figurative work beginning with The Group Yeniler , and his distinctive metaphysical/surrealist style, which uses metaphors like Workers, Machines, and Ants (Ants Are Coming) to explore the theme of labor. This is the first comprehensive resource that documents Mumtaz Yener’s privileged place in Modern Turkish Art history, leveraging original archives, exhibition records, and primary observations.
