Alice Hubbard's Evlilik Hakkındaki Yanlış Düşünceler (The Myth in Marriage) is a feminist critique that treats marriage not as a romantic illusion but as a serious "business partnership" shaped by economic and social realities. The author argues that marriage has two distinct phases: the "spiritual relationship," where idealistic love prevails, and the "business partnership," which involves the everyday. The book emphasises that couples often enter marriage with deep romantic feelings but experience great disappointment when faced with economic realities such as livelihood struggles, housework, and childcare. Hubbard states that in the current system, women are under "primitive bondage"; despite undertaking the vital task of raising citizens for the state, they lose their economic independence and become dependent on the mercy of men. The author advocates that marriage should not be a property relationship but an intellectual friendship between equals. As a solution, she proposes that women must gain their economic freedom, become masters of their own minds and bodies, and that marriage be established on a democratic foundation.
