Synopsis

Otto F. Ege's Alfabenin Öyküsü (The Story of the Alphabet) is a concise yet comprehensive work examining the historical development of writing systems and alphabets. The book traces the transition from primitive picture writing (pictograms), born of humanity's need to communicate, to ideograms and phonograms. Following the evolution of the Babylonian, Egyptian, Phoenician, and Greek alphabets, the author explains how these systems influenced one another and evolved into the Roman alphabet. Ege presents the origins, morphological changes, and historical journey of each letter (f-) with detailed illustrations and explanations. For instance, he notes that the letter 'A' derives from "Aleph," meaning "ox" in Phoenician, and symbolises an inverted ox head. The work emphasises that the alphabet is not merely a tool for communication but a living structure carrying the cultural and historical heritage of civilisations
