Mehmet Şahin's Uluslararası Ekonomik Kuruluşların Küreselleşme Sürecindeki Rolü (The Role of International Economic Organisations in the Globalisation Process) provides a critical examination of the fundamental dynamics shaping the modern economic order. This work approaches globalisation not as a spontaneous or natural phenomenon, but as a process consciously directed by specific International Economic Organisations (IEKs). The book centres its analysis on the "three sister organizations": the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (IBRD), and the World Trade Organisation (WTO/GATT). The author details how these institutions have functioned as the primary engines of globalisation, particularly since the 1980s, through the implementation of "Structural Adjustment Policies" (SAPs) and the principles of the "Washington Consensus". Şahin explores the cooperation among these bodies, the dominant influence of developed nations in shaping their agendas, and their specific roles in the liberalisation of global trade (GATT/WTO) and finance (IMF/World Bank). A significant portion of the book is dedicated to the impact of this process on the Turkish economy, analysing the 1980-1998 period, the pivotal 24 January 1980 decisions and Turkey's subsequent efforts at trade and financial globalisation under the guidance of these institutions.
