Synopsis

This book, comprising selected papers from the Uluslararası Sürdürülebilir Yaşam Konferansı (International Sustainable Life Conference) (24-26 December 2020) and published by Holistence Publications, presents a multidisciplinary perspective centred on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The work moves beyond the conventional concept of 'sustainable development,' emphasising the necessity of an ecology-centred 'sustainable life' philosophy over human-centred approaches, particularly in the Anthropocene era. The articles within thoroughly examine the practical applications of the 17 Global Goals. Under the umbrella of environmental sustainability, critical topics such as water resource management ('Water and Life Couple'), the rehabilitation of mine waste with fly ash, strategic waste management in municipalities, carbon taxation for climate action, and the environmental impact of economic growth are addressed. The financial responsibility dimension explores innovative subjects, including green finance, corporate social responsibility, Turkey's food sovereignty and geographical indications, responsible consumption behaviours such as 'Slow Fish', and product obsolescence phases. On the social front, current issues are analysed, such as the media's effect on gender roles, the representation of women in municipal councils, the concept of decent work, infant mortality rates, and the societal and health management impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This collection serves as a foundational resource for academics, policymakers, and anyone seeking tangible solutions for sustainability.
