Synopsis

Sosyo-Ekonomik Boyutuyla Sağlık (Health with its Socio-Economic Dimension) is a comprehensive study that profoundly examines the multifaceted and critical impacts of health on economic development, social welfare, and individual quality of life. Edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevda Akar, this valuable work is compiled from selected proceedings presented at the ICDAH2020 International Conference on Health with its Different Dimensions. The book proceeds along two principal axes: general health economics and the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the first part, the causal relationship between health expenditures and economic growth is explicitly analysed for Turkey. In contrast, topics such as the socio-demographic factors affecting life expectancy in transition countries and the impact of cardiovascular diseases on economic output in OECD countries are addressed using econometric models.

Furthermore, it empirically explores health insurance models for developing health systems, using Somalia as a case study, and investigates the critical link between psychological health, burnout, and the intention to leave among healthcare workers. The second part of the work focuses on the Covid-19 pandemic, which emerged as a global health crisis. In this context, current issues are examined, including the economic aspects of the pandemic, its impact on financial markets such as the BIST 100, and the necessity of treating Covid-19 as a "global public good" that mandates international cooperation. This book serves as a rich reference source for academics, policymakers, and students seeking to understand the fundamental dynamics in health economics and the socio-economic reflections of the most current crises.
