Synopsis

Edited by Seniha Krasniqi, Language Skills Issues and Teaching Challenges is an academic collection that examines the complex and demanding aspects of language learning and teaching from a multidisciplinary perspective. The book bridges the gap between receptive (listening, reading) and productive (speaking, writing) language skills by analysing both specific learner populations and diverse pedagogical approaches. This comprehensive work consists of five core chapters. It begins by examining the phonological processing and reading performance of primary school students with dyslexia across different text types (fictional and informational). Subsequently, it discusses the dichotomy between using literary works in foreign language teaching and the restrictive nature of standard coursebooks, arguing for the benefits of literature in fostering motivation and cultural vision (from the CEFR B1+ level upwards). The book also explores the roles of teachers (as facilitators) and children (as active learners) within the pre-school curriculum framework, drawing on developmental theories from Piaget and Vygotsky and supported by a questionnaire study with 42 educators. Further chapters investigate teachers' abilities to recognise language and communication difficulties in the classroom (such as stuttering and dysgraphia) and provide a neurolinguistic and psycholinguistic analysis of language breakdown (specifically declarative and interrogative sentences) in patients with Alzheimer 's-type dementia through oral narrative tests. This work offers valuable analyses for educators, linguists, and researchers on the practical challenges and exceptional cases in language teaching.
